How to ensure food security in Africa during Covid-19

Covid-19, coupled with consecutive climatic shocks, is wreaking havoc in Africa. Even before its outbreak, access to safe and nutritious food supplies have been adversely impacted both by natural calamities and the prevalence of multiple epidemics. According to the Regional Economic Outlook Report by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on Sub-Saharan Africa, this is the world’s most food-insecure region, with climate change one of the primary contributors of food insecurity. At present, nearly 650-670 million people in Africa have to face food insecurity, with more than 250 million being classed as severely food insecure.
